no they're not you create a .exe file server and send it to the person u want to rat. when they open the file u will have control of there computer

no they are not required as sickdude say. you can use a rat(remote administration tool) or a botnet for it is the same thing almost. a rat is client to server for you run the rat and it is a server and the people who run the .exe are clients and a botnet works in the same way though the different only is that the clients connect to a web server and it also is that rats can have good uses and botnet are malicious. though the rat good uses are not good lol for spying on employees it is not nice
