A thief goes into a shop

A thief has a fake $100 bill, he goes into a shop and buys a newspaper worth $10, the shop owner doesn't have an exchange so he goes into the the resturant nearby and breaks 

his $100 bill into 5 $10's and a $50,  then the owner comes back and gives the thief $90. Later the resturant owner finds out that the $100 bill is fake and asks the shop to give him $100, 

he gives the resturant owner back a new real $100. 

How much money did the shop owner lose?

I was right on my first assumption.

Then the Thief gets $90 + newspaper

Then Restaurants makes a claim about bill being fake.. So shop pays him $100
