Hey guys!

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but fuck it.

So, I'm new here and I think this site is pretty great so far. There's literally so much shit, it's crazy. It's also one of the only forums that I've seen that has a lively community and live chatrooms, which I'm guessing comes from the anti-leeching system, which I think is very interesting since I've never seen something as intricate as this ever.

There is one question that I'm interested in getting answered, after browsing around the site and forums; How can the average person protect themselves from getting their shit compromised? This is mostly about accounts and passwords and stuff, not computer viruses or things of that sort.

Thanks!

Oh shit, okay. I'm new to all this and I have no idea how these hacking programs work. Does a longer password decrease the chances of the program finding it or something?

Something greater than 16 characters is nearly impossible to be cracked unless it gets exposed in a databreach or has too many dictionary words.

Hmm, luckily I don't have a lot super important accounts yet, but I'll definitely start changing some stuff.

Thanks for the help! I really appreciate it.

Make sure you use a different unique random password for each service or website you use. Prevents people from getting into everything even if your shits leaked somewhere.

Now that I think about, I'll probably need to tell my relatives. Their passwords aren't exactly "creative." Unlike me ($40 steam account :kek:), they actually have accounts worth hacking.

Looks like I'll need to get an offline password manager. I don't think I can keep multiple 16 letter passwords in my head. Is KeePass safe to use?

I use lastpass since college students can get free premium with edu mails. That service is probably fine though.
