First Download the correct version of hashcat, either for CPU or GPU cracking. If you are going to use the GPU download the one related to the manufacturer of your GPU. OCL for AMD and CUDA for NVIDA

Second open the hashcatgui, if you probably know how to execute it from the terminal windows, then you have no need of this mini-howto

Third go to the tab that you are going to use. For example I'm going to use for this example the GPU of an AMD Radeon 280x, then I choose oclHashcat.

Select your files

check on disable Pot file, these prevents from hiding previously cracked passwords.

check Ignore Usernames if your file has a format of username:hash

Select the length to start cracking. It all depends on how much GPU/CPU power do you have. But to start select 1-10 and check the increment mode

On the Charset is what type of characters are you going to use. you can either enter "abcdf123" and the program will run all combinations for the characters abcdf123 or you can use wildcards.

You can also narrow the search using a Mask. Lets say the users you are cracking use often passwords like Mike123 or Jazimne1999. The you can narrow the search by only searching the combination for password that start with an uppercase letter and ends in a number

The mask for Mike123 would be ?u?l?l?l?d?d?d and the mask to use for Jazimne1999 would be ?u?l?l?l?l?l?l?d?d?d?d

Select the location of the actual program.

Select the file to save all the cracked passwords and click on Reverse Engineer. The button often changes to different names like Seek and Destroy or others.

It should see something like the picture below.

And the results should be saved with the following format.

Tip: If you are going to use the GPU. Set the speed of the Fan to 100%

If you want to go Pro. I suggest you to assemble a mining PC. I have a double 7950 and a quadruple R9280x. Meaning the program can detect multiple GPU's
