300 deaths (at least confirmed)

300+ people have recovered from it (at least confirmed)

 

Granted is spreads quick,it is less deadly than SARS.

The majority of fatal cases are elderly and/or have a chronic disease that would increase their susceptibility to infectious diseases

A vaccine / antibiotic will be created soon as they've already been able to recreate the virus (though it can take time to create it obviously)

 

Overall I think the media is just seeing deaths and shines the spot light onto it and has made everyone a bit wary.
