It can be used for SEing, but common sense is needed. I managed to SE a company 3 times with these emails : (not exactly these but it'll help you get the idea)
The website you gave is useless in this case, since j.o.h.n.n.n.y.t.r.o is obviously suspect, the key is knwoing where to place the dots and using addresses that can be separated by multiple ways
