Another humble bundle laying around. This one's more focused on programming as a whole and not really about specific languages, just the important philosophies, paradigms, concepts, and general theory.

Of course, the books often focus on a specific language, but go beyond just the syntax.

 

Book list:

Eloquent Javascript
Clojure for the Brave and True
Learn you a Haskell for Great Good
Learn you some Erlang for Great Good
If Hemmingway wrote Javascript
The Art of R Programming
Automate the Boring Stuff with Python
Write Great Code Vol. 1 & 2

And many more.

 

If you're actually trying to learn computer science for school or for a potential career, these books are great. Can't recommend them for someone who just wants to build calculators and checkers, though.
