Why do cops take down license plate numbers at parties?
1. a similar vehicle might have been reported as stolen
2. the vehicle is too old or too new for that area
3. officer believes driver's license is suspended
4. officer believes vehicle may be involved in a crime that just occurred or is about to occur (may not have reasonable suspicion or probable cause to frisk you or the vehicle)

Yeah that's what I suspected. I thought it would also be evidence in a case where as if you were to get into a car crash, or another event were to occur that it would be sufficient evidence to prove you were drunk driving// driving under the influence.
