What can you do with Serial Numbers

I have seen this in many threads and posts when I'm just surfing the forums. And i am just wondering, what can you actually do with serial numbers? Why do people sell them??

You can do a SE on that company; A serial number is like a warranty number that can be found on the company's product.

You just go to the company and say your item doesn't work, they will ask serial number etc. (SE isn't that simple, it's just a breakdown to explain)

The easiest to SE in my opinion i would have to say Logitech. If u have a Logitech item try it on that and see watch the out come is.
