Because those people are kids and social rejects. Look at pokimane, bad at game, not funny, bellow average looking but gets thousands of dolars because of kids and autists thinks she is one of them and girl player. Why would you send money to guy who plays a game if you had option to go outside with your friend, for a dinner, drink and fun? no, he spends home alone with other rejects donating some guy money so he can keep playing and he can have his "social cirkle" of other rejects cirkle jerking on some guys stream.

I do it sometimes, since the streamers are providing good content for "free", and it helps them to keep doing what they're doing as a full-time job.

Some of them just like the content, some others just want to appear and to get the reaction of the streamer/youtuber, dunno, i wouldn't be paying anyone more than a twitch subscription.
