How's it going guys? I'm in the betting business for around 5 years now and I confidently call myself an expert. I've been doing this VERY profitable for a little more than 2 years now. I personally got banned on 20+ bet365 accounts (restricted on max bet of like 3 euros). I have around 15 people in my home country Lithuania paying me 20% off their profits using my bets and my betting strategy. I make 2-5k/month off these clients alone. My short story on how I got to where I am today :

 

1st stage. I started off like many other noobs start - thinking I know sports (especially basketball) better than everyone else including bookies. Betting based off my knowledge, intuition, h2h comparisons and other shit. Didn't work out, because you can't compete with bookies' data scientists calculating the correct odds on big leagues (euroleague, NBA) and always having an edge over you. Lost a lot of money.

 

2nd stage. Then I discovered some "really good" tipsters which turned out to be just the same like me - all they did was predict the games using their own knowledge. They were just really good at marketing and convincing noobs into purchasing their picks. I could've done that myself. You can't win in the big leagues using your own knowledge. You will never be better than machines and AI the IT engineers and data scientists make for bookies. They are just too powerful. You can't beat computers with your own brain. Lost even more money.

 

3rd stage. I discovered how bookies use the big data to calculate their odds. Did that myself, purchasing sports databases and making prediction models with a help of a couple programmers. Didn't work out because I was aiming at big leagues once again (you don't have a lot of reliable big data on small leagues), and even if you do calculate the probabilities of events right, you cannot win in the long run just because bookies are perfect at calculating these probabilities and they always have an edge over you (i mean the way you only get a 1.90 odds for an event that is 50%). Lost just a little bit of money.

 

4th and final stage. In the 3rd stage I learnt some possible flaws of these big data based probability calculating modules. These flaws can occur if the data is not big enough or completely reliable. Then I got the "BINGO" moment in my head. The little basketball league's data is not big enough nor reliable! This means that modules that work on big leagues won't 100% work on small leagues. And the bookies use the same damn models on all leagues! Then it all made sense - that is the reason why bet365 lets you bet multiple thousands of euros on nba and only 200euro on small leagues. That is why such reliable bookmaker like Pinnacle doesn't even have a market for these small leagues. Because they have flaws! And I know these flaws!
