Hi mates!
I've been using Eclipse for years. A friend has recommended me 2 use "Atom", other Netbeans. What do you usually use?
Thanks guys!!!!
Atom is a bloated mess of a text editor. VSCode does just about everything Atom does with a smaller memory footprint and less CPU cycles.
And Eclipse is more or less just as shitty or worse. I mean, yeah, you write code in it, but if you're actually maintaining a codebase of more than 200 lines, it's a fucking nightmare. You spend more time configuring everything than writing code. There are good projects based off of Eclipse like Keil uVision (something I personally use for writing STM32 embedded code), but they're really specialized and heavily modified as to still allow people to be productive.
But honestly, I've found IntelliJ IDEA to be the best. All Jetbrains products are great, and especially in enterprise environments, IntelliJ's debugger and all their toolchains just make life so much easier.
Not to mention you get a free license if you're a student and have your .edu email (or just send them an email from your school email if it doesn't end in .edu, and they'll upgrade your license.) But yeah, most enterprise settings I've encountered use IntelliJ Enterprise licenses because it can really accelerate development when you're managing these giant systems. Not to mention it includes a linter, so when your code is dogshit it tells you that it's dogshit, which (if you decide to fix the problems) will drastically boost performance.
In short, Eclipse/Anything else is used by people who don't know any better/can't get a license for IntelliJ.
IntelliJ is used by people who need to actually get something done.
There are exceptions to this rule ofc, I know some of my friends were forced to use Eclipse at places they've worked, or for their classes, but typically that's how it goes.
