Okay so the police report is just documentation on the behalf of the laptop and is in accordance to their policy as whoever you talked to seem very keen on this, giving its 2000 dollars. Anyways depending on how active your local law enforcement is which i feel its safe to base that on the general safety of your town, LE usually dont look into swiped things like packages, requires an investigation that usually leads to nothing and hard digging for info, if it requires, which normally it does, granted it just wasnt a situation where it could be solved instantly due to a really dumb move or some unfortunate event, i would say its okay and i would go ahead and do so. Also giving todays date and time the whole pandemic really has weakened security of things but never under estimate and always be smart about it. The risks, well the worst would be filing a false police report but thats arguable since more so it has to do with a less deeper means which is you SEing the laptop which is the deal, I mean the police report is legit per say, so your worried if it might come back to you getting one over on dell? Id say do it but then again "luck" comes in which i dont believe in luck but just easier to label something of yet to be a better understanding on the relations pertaining to each specific event of every single action that falls in place of the inevitable time we all obey wether we know it or not, we consistently verify and adjust accordingly. On a deeper note the ticking clock of time is a conceptual order arrangement of defined events , rather than a continuous output of ones experiences in an indivisible continuity. Oh yeah just file the report youll be good
