Basically, at work i'm occasionally able to open boxes (logitech, fitbits, headphones etc). Hence, I can note down the serial before putting it back.

Since these are unsold, would it be wise to use the serials for an SE?

Are the electronics companies able to tell if a serial is linked to a sold/unsold device?

You can open them, but it will leave mark, beacause it's sticky.

Agreed. However that's a challenge for another day 

My main concern right now is whether the serials I gather are usable.

If the rep i'm trying to SE says that the serial/device hasn't been sold yet, then it's just a waste of time.
